Lime Active Wear was honored last night to be a part of DC Fit Week!  As most of you know, the owners of Lime Active Wear, Kelly and Marianna, are both group fitness instructors so to be a part of an event celebrating fitness and health was our idea of a great time!  We also made a lot of new friends! 

The event was organized by a group of professionals in all areas of health & organization.  There are still a few events tomorrow, March 25th!

The highlight of the evening was that we were invited to participate in the fashion show.  We want to give a special thanks to Renee Moneyhan, Denise Brooks and Keren West for being such awesome models for our active wear!  They showcased our favorites from Margarita, Running Skirts and Couture Active Wear!  All three looked beautiful and we are proud to know them!  Thanks ladies!

Summertime….to us this means flip flops, pools, beaches and cook outs.  What’s not to love?  We can’t hardly believe that here we are July 30th – one more month and the kids go back to school.  In our “Summer Tips” series, we will be posting a few simple life lessons that we have either learned or “re”-learned so far this season!

HOT, HOT AND HOTTER!  This summer has been one of the hottest in history in the mid-Atlantic region and I re-learned a valuable lesson in hydration very early on when I went running on a very hot and humid day in early June (I should have checked the forecast!).  I didn’t bring enough water and paid very dearly for it!  As my running partners where still hydrated with energy, I on the other hand was feeling so sluggish, had to take extra breaks and walked the last mile back.

So let’s us all review hydration basics:

Rule #1 – on average, we should all be consuming at least 100 ounces of WATER on a daily basis.  On days that there is extreme heat, up that to 128 ounces which is a gallon.

Rule #2 – wear loose fitting, lightweight clothing. Running Skirts are a great option!!  Fun, cute and so very functional.

Rule #3 – if you must exercise outside on hot days, do so very early in the morning – yes, this means before 9am.  Two benefits….avoid the heat and get that workout done and over with!

Rule #4 – If you are working out for longer than 60 minutes, you’ll most likely need more than water.  Have something with you that has some electrolytes or other form of energy.

When I talk to people about yoga I hear a lot of reasons why they don’t practice yoga.  I don’t have time, I am not flexible, it is too slow, I get lost and lots more!  But the number one reason I hear is that people have a hard time shutting down their mind.  Be Present is a great term for yoga, in simple terms, to be completely in the moment.  I think at times though, we take it too literally.

How many of us, in today’s busy world can shut our mind off completely?  And is that really practical?  I see people in yoga class struggling with this, you can see their mind wander and then they struggle to bring it back to the moment.

I believe we would be happier if we gave into the thought.  Acknowledge it.  Give it recognition and then put it away for an hour or so.  Instead of battling ourselves to stop thinking.

I believe that to truly be present, we need to be present in our life.  Give in to the passing thoughts.  Know that you are over-scheduled!  Allow your self to flow through the tasks in life, taking them on bit by bit, knowing in the end it always gets done.  Be Present in your life, your whole life and not just in the moment.

Cotton doesn’t cut it. Those race t-shirts are not actually made for racing. They do make great night shirts but cotton t-shirts are not very practical as activewear (and really, they aren’t very fashionable either!).
